Our journey to creating with care

Let’s be honest, art can leave a footprint. It’s hard to balance being crafty with being green, but we’re on the journey to lessen our impact. We may not have it all sorted yet, but we’re proud to be on our way to making a change, no matter how small it may be. Hopefully, you too can join us on our adventure and learn how to create with care!

Small victory #1: Recycling boxes for parcel packaging

Instead of packing all our parcels with foam or plastic padding, we’ve made the move to use recycled materials where possible. The fact is, warehousing and distribution involves a fair bit of cardboard, so we thought, what can we do to cut back on waste? This led us to invest in a nifty machine that chews up our excess recycled cardboard boxes and spits out flexible, netted padding.

Not only does this keep orders safe while they travel to our wholesalers and creative customers, but it also reduces waste by recycling surplus cardboard! It’s another milestone in our journey to make a difference and create with care.

Small victory #2: Introducing Recycled Drawing Paper!

We’re so excited to now sell Recycled Toned Drawing Paper. This was a first for Mont Marte, as we needed to find the right way to create paper from recycled materials without compromising on quality. The toned colour is great for making your highlights and shadows pop, and we’re proud to take a small step towards a greener future!

Watch this space for more updates about our mission to make a difference! We’ve got more ways to create with care planned and can’t wait to share. In the meantime, why not read up on thoughtful ways to dispose of acrylic and oil paints? It may come in handy next time you get painting.

Small victory #3: Cutting back on Styrofoam

In an effort to keep our 1L and 2L paint bottles safe on their travels across the globe, we typically use Styrofoam to help pad the parcels. As part of our mission to reduce waste, we’re transitioning from Styrofoam to cardboard in over 95 countries worldwide! Woohoo!

Based on our records, this means we should save around 3.5 tonnes of Styrofoam waste every year! We’re hoping this small step makes a big difference when it comes to our impact on the environment.
