Create a Van Gogh inspired landscape with polymer clay

1. Creating the base

Carefully cut the front of the canvas off. Do not remove the plastic before doing this as it will hold the plaster in place. To create the plaster, add 250ml of water to the bowl, then add approximately 100g of plaster. Plaster should always be added to the water. Stir until smooth and the consistency of thickened cream. If the plaster is too thin, add more plaster. Once smooth and the right consistency, pour into the frame and leave approximately 5cm from the top. Tap the side of the frame gently to release any air bubbles and let this cure.

2. Drawing and painting the colours
Using the supplied printout, draw the scene onto the dried plaster with a pencil. You can also shade the backside of the printout with a 6B pencils, flip it over and transfer the outline by drawing over the outline with a 2B pencil. Once the outline is finished, paint in a rough guide to follow regarding the colour of clay to use. You can reference the colour guide for this. You can also use any paint, we recommend a 12 piece gouache set.

3. Building the scene
Now we can start laying in the clay. The general rule to follow is, flatten out a 25mm x 25mm block of clay to a thickness of approximately 4-5mm, cut it to shape and press it onto the base. Keep alternating colours, size and direction to create interest in the piece. 

4. Continue building the scene
Roll the green into spirals to make trees and do the same to the yellow to create the sun.
