Starry Night painting tutorial

Step 1: Crescent moon drawing

-    Start by sketching an outline of the crescent moon on your canvas

Step 2: How to paint the moon

-    Use a flat brush and Medium Yellow paint to fill in the moon

-    Switch to Yellow Deep and make light, circular strokes around the moon

-    Continue building textured strokes with a light hand

-    Use your round brush to create similar strokes outside the moon

-    Spread the strokes outward from the shape

Step 3: Adding depth to the moon

-    Pick up Deep Cyan and continue with circular strokes around the moon

-    Layer the strokes over each other to build texture, mimicking Van Gogh’s style

-    Work your way all around the moon, blending as you go

-    Return to your Medium Yellow and add strokes around the moon

-    Blend lightly into the blue

-    Use Lemon Yellow to brighten the area in and around the moon for added contrast

Step 4: How to paint starry night sky

-    Apply Cerulean Blue in circular strokes around the moon

-    Blend into the Deep Cyan

-    Go back to Deep Cyan and blend the blues together with thick brush strokes

-    Fill any empty spaces around the moon

-    With a thin round brush and orange paint, create a subtle outline around the moon

-    Use Yellow Deep to enhance the texture inside and around the moon

-    Add a few strokes of blue along the moon’s edge for extra depth

Step 5: Finessing painting depth

-    Apply Phthalo Blue using circular strokes to create darker tones around the painting

-    Take a thick flat brush and Yellow Deep, creating circular strokes around the moon

-    Build texture and movement

-    Use various shades of yellow and blue to add more strokes

-    Blend them into the Yellow Deep

And there you go; your Starry Night moon is ready! Hang it on the wall to feel inspired by Van Gogh every day.
